So....this weekend my roommate and I volunteered to be extras in our friend's student film. It was so crazy...like most of it was just sitting or standing around for hours while tech set up. But it was really professional...like, the camera we were using was worth about a quarter of a million dollars. And they were using traditional rather than digital film so that was pretty expensive...our first shot was $100 per take, and we had at least 3 takes on it. Man. But everyone in charge was doing this for a final project, so they were all perfectionists about it. But we had a producer, director, a couple camera operators, cinematographer, and couple sound guys...plus theater students, tech, and lots of extras.

So now for my part! Ok, the plot is this guy writes a screenplay, and the shadow monster from the script starts killing people as the script comes to life. And I'm the first one to be killed by the monster! The lights go out and when they come back on...I'm dead! So they carry me out to this guy's car (yeah, being slung over a guy's shoulder while he's running is NOT fun)but find the guy dead too. So the guy carrying me freaks out, drops me (onto a mattress) and runs as the shadow monster grabs another victim and drags her off. So in the end, the protagonist verbally rewrites the script so that he kills the monster, but for the whole last scene I'm just lying dead in the parking lot. Did I mention I was lying in a puddle? Yeah, they wet the ground to make it more dramatic. Did I mention it was raining? Yeah, it rained for a while. Did I mention this took them AN HOUR AND A HALF?!?? So yeah...that's how I came to be laying in a wet parking lot in the rain at 5am. Fuuuuuun times everybody!

Seriously though, it was a lot of fun. I didn't know what I was getting myself into though. I was asked to stand in a certain area in one shot, and as they were setting up the next shot they were like "so, should we have her in a pool of blood or...?" and I was like "wait, I die?!" Yeah, surprise! But a lot of people there didn't know me, so they started calling me Dead Girl. But it's been a while since I had a nickname, so that's cool.
